This Year’s National Prayer Breakfast

The National Prayer Breakfast is an annual non-partisan gathering in Washington DC, designed to bring together political, social and business leaders  for the primary goal of fostering a spirit of love, unity and friendship, allowing the attendees to pray together for the nation and its leaders.

Last week at this prayer breakfast, Trump stated: “They rigged the second election. I had to win it. I had to win it. I needed it for my own ego. I would’ve had a bad ego for the rest of my life. Now I really have a big ego. Beating these lunatics was incredible … the first time they said I didn’t win the popular vote. I did.” What a great feeling. Winning every swing state.” (Here’s the truth:  Trump won 3 key swing states: Florida, North Carolina, and Ohio and  lost 4 significant swing states: Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Arizona.)

I think we all could agree that there are countless opportunities for raising prayers, i.e. for our millions of residents with housing and food insecurities;   restoring justice for those who have been wronged to include Epstein survivors and the ICE victims; restoring and strengthening long-standing ties with allies (both politically and economically); and for war-torn countries like Gaza and Ukraine.  Instead Trump chose to trumpet his need to feed his fragile seemingly insatiable ego. This seems like a clear and present misalignment of presidential priorities.

This is not the America that I grew up in and then served as an AF officer all over the world to protect

  1. Thoroughly agree. Every NPB he has attended has been a travesty, and just an opportunity for him to vent and preen. It’s not what we expect of an event like this designed to bring people of all faiths together.
